Activities for Seniors in Lakewood, CO

Activities for Seniors in Lakewood, CO - Activities for Seniors in Lakewood, CO

May 22nd, 2021

Lakewood, Colorado, is located west of Denver and is one of the most populated cities in The Centennial State. Colorado itself offers residents so many things to see and do. With the Rocky Mountains just an hour’s drive from the state capital, you’d be hard-pressed to find another state that has so much to do year-round – no matter the weather.

For seniors looking to get out and about, Lakewood provides a variety of senior activities to enjoy.

Note: Due to COVID-19, many activities have gone virtual or may be postponed. Call or check the website hosting the activity to make sure they’re still happening for the time being.

5 Activities for Seniors in Lakewood, CO

Aqua Fitness

Lakewood Recreation hosts aquatics classes for seniors, including aquatic fitness, laps, free swimming, and more. They allow drop-ins, so if you’re out and about and want to go for a swim, you can stop in and take part.

Dance Classes

The Clements Community Center and the Lakewood Cultural Center hosts dance classes featuring belly dance, western line dancing, and cardio for seniors looking to move and shake it. They are currently offering virtual lessons over Zoom.

Wellness Activities

Are you looking to stay active and try something new for your health and well-being? Consider yoga, Tai Chi, or personal training. You could participate in a Brain Gym session to exercise your body’s most important organ and stay sharp by doing it.

If you love softball or always wanted to pick it up, consider joining the Colorado Senior Softball league. There’s also a Colorado Senior Volleyball Association if that’s more your style. Lakewood Recreation also offers tennis and pickleball courts for first-come, first-serve (literally) fun.

Travel and Campfire Nights

If you love to go for a good walk, Lakewood features Social Strolls through different parks within the city limits. Occasionally, they feature a walk through the Denver Botanic Gardens, one of the most beautiful places to enjoy. Once a month, they also feature a campfire chat at Bear Creek Lake Park.

How to Find Activities for Seniors

If you’re looking for senior-specific activities in and around Lakewood, there are a handful of ways to find them:

  • Check out Nextdoor or your HOA community board. Every community has a way to communicate with one another. It may be as simple as a bulletin board in the lobby of your building.
  • Use Google to find activities that interest you. If there’s no group just for seniors, you can still join other groups who love to do what you do.
  • If you have a newspaper or local magazine subscription, check out the events sections. You’ll never know what you’ll find in and around town.
  • Talk to your friends and neighbors. What are they up to? What new activities have they taken part in lately?
